MINC Squad Selection Trials take place at the beginning of the year, then at various intervals throughout the year as required. The following is the club criteria that the coaches employ to select the squads. If you have not yet indicated your preference for playing in a competitive or social squad and your desired playing positions, please email Ros ASAP.

GRADED SQUADS

1. Eligibility

To be eligible to be selected a player must:
*   Be in financial good-standing with the club
*   Be committed to attending at least 70% of the weekly night training sessions (If a player
has a valid reason for missing training, for example they are out of the country for 3 weeks,
the player must advise the captain so that they are not penalised)
*   Be willing to communicate availability for training and tournaments to the team captain

2. Criteria for Selection

Based on the preferences supplied by the players for the 2007 season we have the numbers to form 3/4 graded squads. The squads will be balanced in terms of position. There will be 2 to 3 players in each team who can play each position.

Players will be graded by the MINC coaching team.

Players will be graded into the teams based on:
*Movement: landing, turning, recovery, balance
*Passing: length, selection, both sides, release time
*Attack: getting free, timing, awareness
*Defence: variety, timing, awareness
*Specialist Skills: Shooting, Rebounding, Feeding the shooters, Defence of a shot
*Game Plan: Reading the game, Decision making
*Fitness

Players will be judged on their form throughout the year as well as their performance at the  selections.

3. Adjustments to teams throughout the year

As a result of new players joining the club, injuries, a change in player's form or eligibility it may be necessary to make changes to the squads throughout the year.

The coaching team will meet regularly to discuss whether or not changes are needed. Prior to the coaches meeting, feedback will be sought from the captains on attendance and communication within the team. Please note that if a player's attendance or communication is questionable the player will be removed from the graded squad and placed in the Social squad.

If changes to the squads are deemed necessary the coaches will notify the player(s) involved as well as the captain(s) of the impacted team.

To cause as little disruption as possible to the squads' preparation and participation in tournaments the coaches will coordinate the timing of any changes deemed necessary.

As all players in the graded squads opted to be in graded squads, it is expected that players will change squads at the request of the coaches.

The coaches may move players on the day of a tournament if it is absolutely necessary. The move will be for the tournament only, to assist the club because of an unforeseen circumstance in another squad.

SOCIAL SQUAD

Players in this squad attend training when possible. Players will train together or be placed in one of the graded squads to train. The coaches, depending on numbers and the training plan, will determine this.

Any new players to the club will be placed in this squad and must remain in this squad until the coaches meeting deems otherwise.

RESERVE TOURNAMENT PLAYERS

These players cannot commit to training and will fill in for squads at tournaments.

The players will be graded as reserves for a given squad. If the squad needs additional players for the tournament they can contact their teams reserves.

If a player is graded as a reserve for a particular squad, that squad has first call on the player if they are available for the tournament.

If the squad the player is graded into does not need the reserve player for the tournament and another squad does, the player can play with the other squad.

As with the graded squads, the grading of the reserve tournament players may change throughout the year.

If changes to the grading of the reserves are deemed necessary the coaches will notify the player(s) involved as well as the captain(s) of the impacted team.
